Baby Sugar Cookie Bites – bite-sized sugar cutout cookies decorated with too cute baby faces. The easiest decorated cutout cookie you’ll ever make and the perfect dessert for your next baby shower or sprinkle!
This past weekend my sister hosted a sprinkle for a good friend who is expecting a baby girl. If you haven’t heard of a sprinkle it’s a mini baby shower for the second, third, etc. baby. We’ve come a long way from simple baby showers. Now we’ve got sprinkles and gender reveal parties, anything to have a party.
For this delightful sprinkle, I was tasked with making a dessert. Right away I knew I wanted to bake Baby Sugar Cookie Bites. I pinned these adorable bite-sized cookies quite some time ago, and was just waiting for the right time to bake them. Melissa’s Baby Sprinkle was that perfect time.
The Baby Sugar Cookie Bites inspiration came from Munchkin Munchies. Her Baby Cookie Bites looked so easy, unbelievably cute, and baby shower perfect that I just had to make them myself. The sugar cutout cookie and royal icing recipes came from my own collection.
Supplies for Baby Sugar Cookie Bites
- Your Perfect Sugar Cookie Recipe
- Round 1” Cookie Cutter
- Royal Icing Recipe
- AmeriColor Soft Gel Paste: Warm Brown and Ivory
- Pastry Bag
- Decorating Tip #2
These Baby Sugar Cookie Bites are SO easy to make. You’ll need your favorite sugar cutout cookie recipe. If you don’t have one and want a simple but still delicious option, Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie Mix works splendidly. My cookies were ¼” thick; I used the much loved Joseph Joseph Adjustable Wood Rolling Pin. Seriously, I LOVE it!
For the round cookie cutter I used the second smallest cutter from the Ateco Plain Round Cutter Set. You could use anything that cuts a round circle about an inch in diameter, like a shot glass.
If you want brilliant tips on How To Roll Out Sugar Cookie Dough and How To Cut Out Perfect Sugar Cookies Every Time, The Bearfoot Baker has the BEST video tutorials that I both swear and live by!
You’ll also need a kick-butt royal icing recipe, which I have for you. I used this nifty Cookie Icing Color Mixing Chart from The Sweet Adventures of Sugarbelle to create a skin-tone color, which subsequently is a touch of warm brown and a touch of ivory. I always use AmeriColor Soft Gel Paste. I am a color snob that way. 😉
I outlined and flooded my sugar cutout cookies with the same consistency of royal icing. It was about an 8 second icing. The cookies are so small that I didn’t want to dirty an extra anything, plus this was just quicker. It worked fabulously, and I was able to frost 150 Baby Sugar Cookie Bites in good time.
I used a PME #2 Decorating Tip and a disposable pastry bag to pipe/flood my Baby Sugar Cookie Bites.
Once you royal icing frosted sugar cookies have dried it’s time to draw on your baby faces. Make sure your royal icing is DRY before doing this step. I put mine in an airtight container overnight and drew the faces on the next morning. Once again, AmeriColor to the rescue; I used the AmeriColor Gourmet Food Writer for my too cute baby faces.
Once the marker dried {I gave it an hour}, I packed the Baby Sugar Cookie Bites into cellophane bags, attached a pink plastic mini pacifier, and tied them closed with ribbon. The cookies were a big hit!
