Are you ready for the Super Bowl? If you don’t have awesome game day treats like these Football Game Day Sugar Cookies, then I think not.
I am not big into the Super Bowl when the Green Bay Packers aren’t in it, and this year sadly they are not. Instead, I’ll be enjoying football food and watching the Super Bowl commercials. How about you?
If you’re enjoying the Super Bowl I highly recommend Football Game Day Sugar Cookies! I also recommend them if you aren’t watching; they are just too cute, fun, and delicious to pass up!
Football Game Day Sugar Cookies
- Your favorite sugar cookie recipe
- Royal Icing
- Americolor Gel Paste
- Rainbow Nonpareils
Step 1
Using your fav sugar cookie recipe or my favorite Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie Mix, make your cutout sugar cookie dough. If you're looking for decorating cookie tips, I am a HUGE fan of How to Roll Out Sugar Cookie Dough, How to Cut Out Perfect Sugar Cookies Every Time, and Flatten Cookies for a Smooth Decorating Surface.
A few of my favorite decorated cookies supplies: Nonstick Baking Sheet, Silpat Silicone Baking Mat, Joseph Joseph Adjustable Rolling Pin, Wilton Fondant Smoother, Wilton Nonstick Cooling Rack, and CK Meringue Powder.
Using a square cookie cutter cut out your square cookies. Bake and allow cookies to cool completely before frosting.
Step 2
Make your royal icing. You'll need Leaf Green (10 drops) and Chocolate Brown (10 drops), which should be 8-second icing to both outline and flood.
You'll also need white royal icing, which should be thicker; you want to pipe with it. This is what you'll be using for the goal post, football laces, yard lines, and yard line numbers.
For outlining, flooding, and piping I use disposable pastry bags fitted with PME #2 Round Tip.
Step 3
For the goal post cookies, outline and flood half the cookie with brown. Immediately shake rainbow nonpareils onto your cookie; these are your football fans. Outline and flood the other half of the cookie with green. Allow sugar cookie to dry completely before piping a white goal post.
For the football cookies, outline and flood the entire cookie with brown royal icing. Allow royal icing to dry completely before piping white football laces.
For the field cookies, outline and flood the entire cookie with green royal icing. Allow royal icing to dry completely before piping white yard lines and numbers.
I am a sucker for decorated cookies. I am a HUGE fan! Happy Little Football Sugar Cookies, anyone?
Football Game Day Sugar Cookies, eat one or three every time there is a touchdown and the Super Bowl will be AWESOME!

What????!!! The super bowl is this weekend? Pretty sad given I live in Boston. . .home of the Patriots. But I guess since I have only lived here a couple of years I really am not vested. That said, these cookies are the absolute cutest. I love all three... but my very favorite is the one with the nonpareils representing the crowds. So, so clever.
Sarah says
Lynn, Thank you! I wasn't super invested either since it wasn't the Packers, but I must say it was a really good game! My fav is the crowd ones too! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
