It’s hard to believe I’ve been home from Seattle for two weeks already. It seems like just yesterday I was enjoying the sights, the incredibly warm and sunny weather, and the yummy treats. If you follow SBS on Instagram, you saw some of #sarahdoesseattle. It was a fun trip and sufficed to say I am sad it’s over.
I wanted to share this trip as soon as I got home, but I couldn’t pass up sharing 15 Fair Foods You Can Make At Home. I mean, Hello?! Fair Foods! The delay doesn’t change the awesomeness that IS Seattle.
I visited Seattle with my mom, dad, sister, and husband for nine days for a family friend’s wedding. Congratulations Jesse and Justin!! We extended our stay to enjoy all that Seattle has to offer!

We visited the Seattle Great Wheel, Pike Place Market, Seattle Aquarium, Space Needle, EMP Museum, Ballard Locks, Gum Wall, Chihuly Garden and Glass, Ducks of Seattle, Sky View Observatory, UP House, Bainbridge Island, Mount Rainier, and an obscene amount of driving and walking in Ballard, Seattle, and West Seattle. We even went on a few Mount Rainier hikes. Boy, did we enjoy what Seattle has to offer!
Now let’s talk sweets in Seattle because that’s what you really care about.
You absolutely cannot go to Seattle without trying a few or a lot of the sweet treats they have to offer. Seattle practically has a bakery on every corner {SMILE!}. I had a list of places I wanted to go to that I had seen on Unique Sweets Seattle on The Cooking Channel, and I hit most of them.
Top Pot Doughnuts
We hit up the Top Pot Doughnuts in Ballard. We purchased a six-pack which included a Raspberry Glazed Chocolate Cake, Frosted Chocolate Rainbow Sprinkle Cake, Sandcastle Chocolate Cake, Cinnamon-Sugar Cake, Glazed Ring, and Feather Boa Cake.
I had a taste of both the glazed ring and cinnamon-sugar cake donuts. They were FABULOUS! The rest of the donuts were also all highly enjoyed. If you ever find yourself in the Seattle area, YES – STOP HERE!
Cupcake Royale
I visited Cupcake Royale in Ballard. I ordered the Dance Party Cupcake, which is vanilla cake with pink buttercream frosting and sprinkles. It wouldn’t be a dance party without sprinkles! It was absolutely delish! The cake was soft and tender {dare I say, moist} and the buttercream just melted in your mouth.
My hubby had a Cupcake Sundae, which was comprised of a Raspberry Pavlova Cupcake, which is raspberry vanilla cake, swirled with lemon buttercream, drizzled with raspberry sauce and topped with a Pavlova {meringue}, Oregon Hill Strawberry ice cream, and topped with whipped cream.
Suffice to say, we are probably lucky there isn’t a Cupcake Royale in our neck of the words or we would have an out-of-this-world delicious problem!
Fran’s Chocolates
Fran’s Chocolates is a very upscale chocolate store in downtown Seattle. The setup of the store reminds me of a jewelry store. We walked into the store just to have a look-see, but an employee asked if we would like to try their Smoked Salt Caramels. My hubby and I of course jumped on that opportunity, and the first bite was absolute pure heaven! At that point, we couldn’t leave without buying something.
We ended up purchasing a box of six chocolates: Pure Dark Chocolate Truffle, Whiskey Truffle, Smoked Salt Caramel, Grey Salt Caramel, Milk Chocolate Caramel, and Milk Chocolate Tas de Noix {caramel with a macadamia nut on top}.
If I told you these chocolates were absolutely to die for, I still wouldn’t be doing them justice. The ones we had were all fantastic, but my favorites are definitely the salted caramels – there just aren’t words for how good they are. Seriously, eat Fran’s Chocolates! I promise you won’t be disappointed!
Gelarto Italian Ice Cream and Global Arts
Gelarto Italian Ice Cream is located on Bainbridge Island. We took the ferry over there, which was an experience in itself; we don’t have ferries in Wisconsin. The sorbeto we had was awesome!
My hubby and I shared three flavors: Limone {Lemon}, Fragola {Strawberry}, and Bainbridge Berry {Raspberry, Blackberry, and Blueberry}.
The sorbeto was very refreshing and was SO GOOD! My favorite was the Bainbridge Berry. What can I say; I am a Bainbridge Berry girl!
Have you been to Seattle or live there? What is your favorite part? If you’ve never been there, is there someplace where you would love to visit?

We were there a couple of years ago. There is so much to see and do. Looks like you had a fun time.

So glad you loved Seattle. I'm proud to call it home. If you get back here, I offer a couple of suggestions - one food related, one not. I know it sounds trite but I recommend a Starbucks visit. Many people don't know about this one unless you work downtown. It's on the 40th floor of the Columbia Tower. It gives you an interesting view of the city and while it's a Starbucks it has a different vibe because of the view. Secondly, I would recommend the Kubota Gardens. They're beautiful and not something that ends up on many of the top sites to see when visiting. Oh, and then there's Gelatiamo right near my office. I'm biased, but the gelato is pleasing to the palette!
Sarah says
Debra - I'll probably get back there someday; there are still things I want to visit. I will definitely add your recommendations to the list. The Kubota Gardens sound awesome and I am always a fan of gelato! Thanks for sharing, hopefully I'll get back there in the not too distant future! 🙂
