I am SO HAPPY to be back to baking and sharing after my September Houdini act. If you're an email subscriber or a Green Bay Packers fan, then you know that I spent September moving. We moved into a small apartment while we finish saving for a down payment and building our dream house.
These too cute Pumpkin Patch Cupcakes are my very first bake in the new apartment and suffice it to say the kitchen is going to take some getting used to. For starters, for every baking tool or ingredient I need, I have to move 10 just to get to it. Sarah’s Bake Studio has never been more fitting!
The other reason is an old gas oven. I’ve already found that my cupcake baking times are a tad bit longer, which just goes to show the importance of being mindful of how long YOUR oven takes to sufficiently bake/cook. Oven temperatures and times can vary from oven to oven. My old gas oven is proof of that.
Enough about that, let’s talk Pumpkin Patch Cupcakes.
These Pumpkin Patch Cupcakes are PERFECT for the fall season - Halloween and Thanksgiving! They are totes adorbs and beyond easy to make.
Remember these Game Day Football Cupcakes? The grassy knoll of these cupcakes is the same as those cupcakes but with candy pumpkins instead of almond footballs.
For these Fall Pumpkin Patch Cupcakes, you'll first need your favorite chocolate cupcake recipe. I went with the ever-delicious Georgetown Cupcakes Chocolate Cupcake. It’s quickly becoming my go-to scratch cupcake recipe AND as it pertains to these decorated cupcakes it represents the “dirt” of the pumpkin patch.
Supplies for Pumpkin Patch Cupcakes
- Halloween Mellowcreme Pumpkins aka Candy Pumpkins
- Vanilla Buttercream
- Americolor Soft Gel Paste – Leaf Green
- Disposable Pastry Bags
- Grass Decorating Tip #233
- Round Decorating Tip #3 - for pumpkin stems
Step-by-Step Pumpkin Patch Cupcake Instructions
To decorate your Pumpkin Patch Cupcakes I’ve provided step-by-step instructions.
Step 1 | The Grass
Making grass is a cinch with decorating tip #233, the grass tip. Start at the edge or middle of your cupcake, holding your piping bag at a 90-degree-ish angle hover just above the cupcake and squeeze with a gentle even pressure; releasing pressure as you pull away. The longer you squeeze as you are pulling away, the longer your grass will be. Work your way around the cupcake until the entire top is grass-covered.
Step 2 | The Pumpkins
It doesn’t get easier than placing two candy pumpkins on top of your grass-frosted cupcake. If your frosting has dried and the candy pumpkins won’t “stick” to your cupcake, put a little buttercream on the back of your pumpkin and then press onto the cupcake.
Step 3 | The Pumpkin Stems
To really give your Pumpkin Patch Cupcakes flair you’ll want to add stems to the candy pumpkins. You’ll be piping the pumpkin stems on with decorating tip #3, a round tip. With gentle even pressure add curly stems to your candy pumpkins; release pressure when you complete your stem and then pull up with the pastry bag. You can add as many stems as you like and they can be as long as you like.
Nothing screams fall like Pumpkin Patch Cupcakes and your ability to hide your cupcake obsession behind an oversize sweater! 😉
