I love Halloween. I love Halloween costumes, Halloween parties, and most of all Halloween baking (and no that does NOT include a pumpkin obsession; I do not have one).
Unfortunately, all the apple picking, pumpkin farms, ghouls and goblins, planning for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and my monstrous anxiety do not lend itself to as much Halloween baking as I would like.
Please tell me that this time of year can be nightmarish for you too? Don't leave me in the dark.
On that note, since I much prefer to decorate Halloween cookies and Halloween cupcakes, I've got Halloween Mummy Cupcakes for you!
Halloween Mummy Cupcakes are an easy and fun way to dress up your cupcakes for Halloween. You can use your favorite cupcake recipe, they don't require a lot of "stuff", and it's not frowned upon to eat any extra vanilla buttercream with a spoon.
Honestly, I never frown upon eating vanilla buttercream with a spoon, heck you can eat it with a fork, have at it!
For these Halloween Mummy Cupcakes, you will need an awesome-sauce cupcake recipe, vanilla buttercream, royal icing eyes, and a no.44 basketweave decorating tip. If you've got a disposable decorating bag, even better. You can get by with a plastic sandwich bag though.
The first step in dressing up your Halloween Mummy Cupcakes is to frost your cupcakes with vanilla buttercream. I used a flat decorating spatula but a knife will certainly suffice.
You can use as much frosting or as little as you want. I am a frosting fiend so there is no shortage of buttercream on my Halloween Mummy Cupcakes. The idea is to create a frosting base and to cover up the cake.
Once you've frosted your cupcake, you want to add your royal icing eyes before your buttercream crusts over; this allows them to stay put.
I make my own royal icing eyes and you can too! Or, you can purchase them. Either option will do.
It's now time to mummify your Halloween Mummy Cupcakes. Using a pastry bag or a plastic sandwich bag fitted with a no.44 basketweave decorating tip you're going to pipe frosting ribbons across your cupcakes. Make sure that your frosting is going on in flat ribbons to create a more realistic mummy look.
Keep crisscrossing your frosting ribbons onto your cupcake until you achieve your desired Halloween Mummy Cupcakes.
And that's it, Halloween Mummy Cupcakes.
